The Mission
of the OIG is to prevent and detect fraud, waste,
and abuse as well as to promote economy, efficiency,
and effectiveness in GPO's program and operations.
To meet the responsibilities, the OIG conducts audits,
investigations and inspections through its Office
of Audits (OA), Office of Investigations (OI) and
Office of Administration and Inspections(OAI). In
October 1996, Congress amended Title 44 U.S.C. 309
to require that OIG audits of the financial and operational
activities of GPO be conducted under the direction
of the Joint Committee on Printing (JCP). Accordingly,
the Inspector General solicited audit direction from
the Committee and is incorporating the audit recommendations
of the JCP in a strategic plan to guide the OIG’s
future audit activities.
