As part of the USGS mission to provide the Nation with reliable scientific information, Mineral Resources Program (MRP) outreach projects work to understand the MRP customer base and its needs in order to better provide the Nation with mineral related information. Through an understanding of the MRP customer base, the outreach projects can optimize service to our customers and broaden the customer base with timely, innovative products and effective interactions. In addition, through outreach, the projects seek to increase opportunities for collaborative work.

Project activities are grouped into three broad, overlapping categories: (1) Outreach -- broaden and increase understanding of our customers and their needs so that we can make minerals-related information available in ways that will be useful to those who need it; (2) World Wide Web (WWW) -- continue development, maintenance, and improvement of MRP-funded WWW sites; and (3) Publications and other products -- create and test publications and other types of non-traditional audiences. A fourth task, Locatable Mineral Reports, was added for FY01 and will subsequently be incorporated into products and publications.
