About Us

The New Haven Division is one of 56 FBI Field Offices in the United States and Puerto Rico. The New Haven office is the headquarters for FBI operations covering the State of Connecticut. Our Special Agent in Charge (SAC) is Michael J. Wolf who oversees the division. Our Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) is Paul S. White.

The FBI's presence in Connecticut dates back to 1921. At that time, one Special Agent of the Justice Department's Bureau of Investigation was assigned to Hartford. The Bureau of Investigation became the Federal Bureau of Investigation in July 1935. In 1941, the FBI Headquarters for Connecticut moved to New Haven. The Hartford office became a Resident Agency (RA), a satellite office of New Haven.

Presently, there are over 100 Special Agents and 82 Professional Support Employees assigned to Connecticut. Agents are assigned to a squad that has responsibility for a particular crime problem or investigative program. Examples of investigative programs are: Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, White Collar Crime, Violent Crime, Drugs/Organized Crime, Cyber Crime, Public Corruption and Civil Rights. Professional Support Employees may be assigned to squads, program managers or other specialized units depending on their duties.

In Connecticut the New Haven office is our Headquarters with two satellite offices or Resident Agencies (RAs) in Bridgeport and Meriden. The Bridgeport RA covers Fairfield County and the Meriden RA covers Northern Connecticut.
