Message from the Secretary

America is a country with citizens from every land. We have the most incredible diversity in the world - and despite all of our diversity, we are united as one. These two characteristics, diversity and unity, describe us as a country as perhaps no others can. This uniqueness, our diversity in unity, is America's greatest strength.

At U.S. Department of State, we make the most of this strength. The Department strives to reflect the wide diversity that is America. Today, the stage of diplomacy can only be set with the drama of our democracy's diversity, and we are committed to hire, train, mentor, sustain and maintain the diversity of America to present to the world the foreign policy of the American people.

We are one team, one mind. We are stunningly different and dazzlingly the same. We are the face of America to the world. That face is the face of the future-a future of wider peace, greater tolerance, and increasing prosperity for the entire world.
