Carl L. Rabun - Seattle Regional Commissioner

Regional Commissioner
The Social Security Administration’s Seattle Region proudly serves the residents of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Our region encompasses 23 % of America’s landmass and spans three time zones.

Over 1.7 million of our region’s 12 million people receive monthly retirement, survivors or disability benefits. Another 187,000 get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments. In all, Social Security pays more than $17 billion a year to residents of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

Within the Seattle Region, we maintain a network of 54 local offices – strung the length and breadth of our four states - from Fairbanks to Medford and from Idaho Falls to Grays Harbor.

But chances are good that your first contact with Social Security will be with one of our highly trained telephone service representatives based right here in the Pacific Northwest. One of Social Security’s four largest teleservice centers is located in Auburn, Washington. And we have a smaller facility in Portland, Oregon. Both are fully integrated into Social Security’s network of toll-free telephone service. Teleservice representatives at both facilities can handle your calls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.

Just dial 1-800-772-1213.

The toll-free TDD number, for the deaf and hearing-impaired community, is 1-800-325-0778.

Our nearly 1,800 Seattle Region employees are a well-trained, courteous and highly dedicated group of people. As diverse as the population of our region itself, their goal is to provide you with high quality, professional service each and every time you need help. They are there to answer your questions, explain our programs and take your applications for benefits.

And if you’re looking for employment, why not consider coming to work for us? The Social Security Administration is a terrific place to work. If you’re interested in finding out more about a career where you can make a difference in people’s lives and your own, click on our Social Security Careers link at the left.
