How does Swampworks solve problems? In what time
frame does Swampworks produce results?
Swampworks is a sort of middleman - the program attempts
to connect ongoing research with problems at hand.
When a technology with great potential to solve a
problem is identified, Swampworks funds the research
to promote rapid development. Swampworks hopes to
develop problem-solving technologies in a period of
1-3 years.
What types of problems does Swampworks address?
Swampworks responds to enduring problems within the
fleet and emerging operational barriers and challenges.
For example, Swampworks currently funds projects concerning:
Sensors
Warfighting Techniques
Weapons Systems
Platforms
Does Swampworks develop new technologies?
Swampworks develops new technologies only in the event
that no existing technology is in development that
could conceivably solve a problem.
What if the demonstrations are not 100%
successful?
If they are less than 100% successful then further
review may lead to terminating
their development or directing further investment
from the long-term S&T program.
I am a fleet member with a technological
problem on my ship. Should I submit my problem to
Swampworks?
No - Swampworks addresses the concerns of the naval
leadership. However, Tech Solutions, another ONR program,
does address the technological problems of the fleet.
Please visit the program's
website to learn more about Tech Solutions and
submit your problem online.
I have a problem I would like Swampworks
to consider. How do I begin this process?
Please contact our Executive
Assistant. She will help you determine the appropriate
persons to contact regarding your problem.
Can I compete for Swampworks funds?
No. Swampworks either awards funds to existing developments
or chooses a new technology and invests in its development.
