Mr. Christopher D. Gardner, Assistant to the Chief, National Guard Bureau Assistant to the Chief, National Guard Bureau

Christopher D. Gardner, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is currently assigned as Assistant to the Chief of the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Virginia.

Gardner was born in Washington, D.C. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1971 and served tours in CONUS and Southeast Asia prior to his discharge in 1974 when he joined the District of Columbia Air National Guard.

Mr. Gardner was assigned as a senior maintenance production controller for the 113th Fighter Wing until transferring, in his civilian capacity, to the United States Army Materiel Command (AMC) in 1979. He served in numerous positions within the logistics career field, including assignments with the executive office of the president and the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Development.

Mr. Gardner was assigned as Chief of Mobilization and Reserve Component Support in 1986 where he directed overall mobilization planning for AMC. In 1989, he was assigned as Chief of Command Operations and, at the end of Desert Shield/Storm, was assigned Chief of the Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA) Transition Team.

From January 1993 until July 2000, he assumed the position of Deputy Commander where he was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the USAMC LOGSA at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

Mr. Gardner was inducted into the Senior Executive Service in July 2000, and assumed the position of Director of the Joint Staff, National Guard Bureau on July 30, 2000. On June 1, 2004, he assumed the position of Assistant to the Chief, National Guard Bureau.

Mr. Gardner is married and has two children.
