Mission and Vision Statement

Evaluation at the Corporation is the responsibility of the Department of Research and Policy Development (RPD). RPD’s mission is to develop and cultivate knowledge that will enhance the mission of the Corporation and of national and community service programs. RPD will lead the agency in establishing appropriate and effective performance measurement and accountability systems for the Corporation’s programs. This includes improving the management of community service programming by developing a better understanding of civic behavior. RPD is also responsible for conducting high-quality, rigorous evaluations, research and policy analysis, and providing the Corporation’s executive management, the Congress, the nonprofit sector and the public with performance information on national and community service. Other tasks to enhance the mission of RPD are the development and responsibility for new programs and special initiatives.

About Research & Policy Development

As part of the CEO’s office, Research & Policy Development’s vision is to:

  1. Conduct high quality, rigorous social science evaluation research designed to measure the impact of Corporation’s programs and shape policy decisions;
  2. Encourage a culture of performance and accountability in national and community service programs;
  3. Provide national information on volunteering, civic engagement, and volunteer management in nonprofit organizations;
  4. Assist in the development and assessment of new initiatives and innovative demonstration projects designed to shape future policy decisions.
