Shoreline Data

This site provides access to a variety of sources pertaining to shoreline data and information. Several of these sources were created by the NOAA Coastal Services Center, while others are external to the Center.

The Center has produced, as of 2002, 344,456.16 miles of high-resolution vector shoreline data from scanned historical shoreline maps in raster format. These data are available for download from this site.

Additional Site Features

In addition to being able to interact with and download a historical digital shoreline for most of the coastal U.S. from this site, coastal managers can

  • access shoreline data from a variety of other sources
  • view information on shoreline-related events
  • learn about groups involved in developing data, setting shoreline standards, and making decisions
  • link to additional information about the shoreline
