All the latest from the Council for Regulatory Environmental Modeling.

  

o        Public Release of Draft Guidance for Environmental Models and Models Knowledge Base.  At a press conference on January 28, 2004, the CREM announced the public availability of two products that provide:

 

·         draft Agency guidance on how environmental models should be developed, evaluated, and applied for decision making.  EPA’s Draft Guidance on Environmental Models is available at: http://www.epa.gov/osp/crem/library/CREM%20Guidance%20Draft%2012_03.pdf (PDF 2.9 MB, 60 pages, info about PDF)

 

 

·         a web-accessible Models Knowledge Base with information on EPA models.  EPA's Models Knowledge Base is available at: http://cfpub.epa.gov/crem/knowledge_base/knowbase.cfm

 

Following their public release, both of these CREM products are undergoing a joint review by the EPA's Science Advisory Board (SAB): http://www.epa.gov/science1/panels/cremgacpanel.html

 

 

o         Regional Seminar Series on Models.  The CREM is coordinating a series of workshops on modeling for EPA’s regional offices.  The first two workshops were sponsored by Regions 4 and 10.  A workshop with Region 2 is planned for March 2004.  See:  http://www.epa.gov/crem/crem_seminars.cfm

o        Environmental Law Reporter article on judicial review of EPA models.  The October 2003 Environmental Law Reporter contains an article by Tom McGarity and Wendy Wagner on "Legal Aspects of the Regulatory Use of Environmental Modeling."  See 33 ELR 10751.
