Contraceptive Logistics

Technical assistance

CDC's Division of Reproductive Health (DRH) promotes improving contraceptive logistics systems in order to provide appropriate quantities of family planning commodities to populations in developing countries. DRH can provide assistance with all the steps that lead to each service delivery point and warehouse having the right number of supplies:

  • estimating future contraceptive need;
  • ordering the right number of supplies to arrive at the right times;
  • analyzing the logistics system to improve the flow and timeliness of supplies;
  • storing contraceptives and other supplies properly to assure good quality;
  • improving record-keeping and the timeliness of reporting;
  • monitoring the level of contraceptive supplies and the rate at which they are used;
  • analyzing the data on contraceptive use so that accurate forecasts can be made.

To find out how to obtain contraceptive logistics assistance from CDC/DRH visit the section on About the Agreement with USAID and How to obtain assistance.

USAID also funds the DELIVER project at John Snow, Inc. at http://www.deliver.jsi.com to provide contraceptive logistics technical assistance and to produce publications on contraceptive management. In addition, FPLM conducts logistics training courses.
