CHANGE A LIGHT, CHANGE THE WORLD

Changing the world starts with simple actions. When you replace a light bulb or fixture in your home with one that has earned the ENERGY STAR, you contribute to a cleaner environment while saving yourself energy, money and time buying and changing lights in your home. Every American is encouraged to change out their 5 most frequently used light fixtures or the bulbs in them to ENERGY STAR qualified lighting. If every American home made this "5 light change" not only would each family save more than $60 every year in energy costs, but together we'd also keep more than one trillion pounds of greenhouse gases out of our air. That's a $6 billion energy savings for Americans equivalent to the annual output of more than 21 power plants.

Every fall, hundreds of ENERGY STAR partner retailers, manufacturers, utilities, and state organizations come together for the annual ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World Campaign to make this change easier by bringing more energy-efficient lighting choices to store shelves and offering more consumer education. You may be able to find special offers on select qualifying products through retailers and home improvement stores across the country. See who is participating in 2004 Word to bring the Change a Light, Change the World message to you.

ENERGY STAR qualified lighting uses 2/3 less energy than traditional lighting products and lasts 6 to 10 times longer. The ENERGY STAR label can be found on lighting products ranging from light bulbs to an increasingly wide range of stylish and task-oriented lamps and fixtures. To save the most energy and money, replace your highest used fixtures or the light bulbs in them with energy-efficient models. The 5 highest use fixtures in a home are typically the kitchen ceiling light, the living room table and floor lamps, bathroom vanity, and outdoor porch or post lamp.

Did you know? The average home is responsible for more air pollution than the average car. When you use less energy at home, you reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and help protect our environment. Learn more steps you can take to reduce air pollution.
