Greening Your Products: Good for
the Environment, Good for Your Bottom Line (PDF, 697 KB)
This Guidance for greening products has been a work in progress since
the JWOD Program signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department
of Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency in August 2000. The
guidance is intended to be an introduction to greening products, focusing
on two elements of greening: (1) greening product attributes and (2) greening
the manufacturing process. Ultimately, the guidance provides businesses
with the necessary tools to use environmentally preferable products while
attaining cost saving results. The guidance was prepared on behalf of
the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled,
the National Industries for the Blind, and NISH.

The FTC, in cooperation with the EPA, has developed guidelines for advertisers
to ensure that their environmental advertising and labeling claims (such
as "environmentally preferable") comply with the law and do
not mislead the consumer.
