Herbert Hoover National Historic Site
Hoover Complex - West Branch, Iowa

The Herbert Hoover National Historic Site was authorized in 1965 to preserve and protect in public ownership the properties associated with the life of Herbert Hoover, 31st President of the United States. The 186-acre site includes the two room cottage where Hoover was born in 1874, a replica of his father's blacksmith shop, a one-room schoolhouse, and the Quaker Meetinghouse where the Hoover family worshipped.

President and Mrs. Hoover are buried on a quite knoll overlooking the birthplace cottage. A 81-acre tall grass prairie offers opportunities to hike and explore part of Iowa's natural history. The visitor center contains information about Hoover's childhood and special exhibits. The site is managed by the National Park Service, and is one of two park service units in the state of Iowa. The site is open daily from 9-5, closed Thanksgiving, December 25, and January 1. For more information, call 319-643-2541.
