Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) helps working families get free or low-cost health insurance for their children. If you are a parent or guardian, you can find out how to contact your State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) directly. If you work at a school or child care program find out how you can help, too.

Children's Health Insurance Program-State Contacts
Each State has its own program to make health insurance coverage available to the children in working families. Contact your state representative to find out about the program in your state.

Children’s Health Insurance Program –Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
This CMS informational site provides materials of interest to many different audiences about SCHIP. The site includes enrollment information, statistics, regulations, press releases, and more.

Health Resources and Service Administration's Maternal and Child Health Bureau
MCHB provides national leadership and works in partnership with states, communities, public-private partners, and families to strengthen the maternal and child health infrastructure, assure the availability and use of medical homes, and build the knowledge and human resources in order to assure continued improvement in the health, safety, and well-being of the MCH population. The MCH population includes all America's women, infants, children, adolescents, and their families, including fathers and children with special health care needs.

Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention
Frustrated parents or other persons responsible for a child’s care often feel that shaking a baby is a harmless way to make the child stop crying. However, weak neck muscles combined with a soft, rapidly forming brain and thin skull wall make infants and toddlers extremely vulnerable to injury from shaking. The whiplash motion caused by shaking can damage nerves and brain tissue.

Caring for Every Child's Mental Health Campaign
This campaign helps families, educators, health care providers, and young people themselves to recognize mental health problems and to seek or recommend appropriate services. It also strives to reduce the stigma associated with mental health problems.

Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS)
The CMHS web site at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) includes reports, programs, links to teleconferences, and a comprehensive search function in English and Spanish.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health
This site from the National Institute of Mental Health lists books, fact sheets, and summaries on various mental health issues.

National Center for Children in Poverty
This organization identifies and promotes strategies that prevent child poverty in the United States and that improve the lives of low-income children and their families.

National Technical Assistance Center for Children's Mental Health
This center is an integral part of the Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development at the Georgetown University Medical Center. Since 1984, the TA Center has been dedicated to working in partnership with families and many other leaders across this country to reform services for children and adolescents who have, or are at risk for, mental health problems and their families.

Research and Training Center on Family Support and Children's Mental Health

National Wildlife Heath Center West Nile Virus Project
Wildlife disease scientists from the USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) are utilizing their specialized biological containment facilities to provide diagnostic support and research results to Federal, State, and local wildlife agencies, as well as to public health departments for detecting the West Nile virus.

Pesticides and Child Safety
Although pesticides can be beneficial to society, they can be dangerous if used carelessly or if they are not stored properly and out of the reach of children. According to data collected from the American Association of Poison Control Centers, in 2000 alone, an estimated 73,000 children were involved in common household pesticide-related poisonings or exposures in the United States.
