Federal Disabilities Legislation
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a Federal education program to provide Federal financial assistance to State and local education agencies to guarantee special education and related services to eligible children with disabilities, aged birth through 5. Under the legislation, states have the responsibility to provide a free, appropriate public education and must develop an Individualized Education Program for each child served. Parts of this law were formerly known as the Education for all Handicapped Children Act of 1975, as PL 94-142, and as the Education of the Handicapped Act (EHA) of 1986.

Guide for Implementing Child Care Legislation: Public Law 106-58, Section 643
This Guide provides Federal agencies, Federal employees, child care providers, and child care governing boards with useful information related to the child care legislation that permits agencies to spend appropriated funds, including revolving funds otherwise available for salaries, to assist their lower income employees with the costs of child care.

Media Marketing Accountability Act
Introduced in the Senate in April by Sens. Joe Lieberman (D-Ct), Herb Kohl(D-WI), Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Robert Byrd (D-WV) and in the House in June by Reps. Steve Israel (D-NY) and Tom Osbome (R-NE), this legislation would give the FTC the same authority under its false and deceptive advertising laws to bring actions against entertainment companies that market material labeled as unsuitable for children directly to children.

No Child Left Behind Act of 2001
On January 8, 2002, President Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The Act is the most sweeping reform of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) since ESEA was enacted in 1965. It redefines the Federal role in K-12 education and will help close the achievement gap between disadvantaged and minority students and their peers. It is based on four basic principles: stronger accountability for results, increased flexibility and local control, expanded options for parents, and an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work.
