The Office of Educational Partnerships' responsibilities include: coordinating, planning and assisting bureaus and offices with implementing the U.S. Department of the Interior's (DOI) educational programs
and activities; serving as principal Departmental liaison for consultation, monitoring, and evaluation of education programs. Examples of actions to carry out these responsibilities are:
- Coordination of a DOI Education Committee comprised of at least one representative from each of the DOI bureaus. The Committee's purpose is to provide liaison to the Department and its bureaus on education programs and initiatives, and to make specific recommendations to the Department on actions and initiatives
in response to the Goals 2000: Educate America Act and other K-12 education authorities.
- Development of Departmental Guidelines for establishing school partnerships designed to encourage bureaus and offices to expand their support of K-12 schools so that a greater number of students are reached.

Partners in Education
The Department of the Interior has many K-12 school partners across the country and actively seeks to improve its support of these schools as well as increase the numbers of schools and youth served through the Partners in Education Program.

The DOI Education Committee has developed Departmental Guidelines to assist bureaus with reaching their goals for existing partnerships and to encourage the development of new partnerships.

Ross Elementary School
Ross Elementary School is located at 1730 R Street, N.W. Washington, DC 20009. The partnership between DOI and Ross Elementary School has been in existence since 1983. Traditional assistance from DOI has included: Tutoring students, field trips, classroom presentations by DOI professionals, donation of computers and
other equipment and annual collection of grocery receipts to enable to the school to earn computers, books and other education materials.
Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School
Stevens Elementary School is located at 1050 21st Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036. The partnership between DOI and Stevens Elementary School has been in existence since 1983 when Stevens Elementary School shared a principal with Ross Elementary School. Traditional assistance from DOI has included: tutoring students,
field trips, classroom presentations by DOI professionals, donation of computers and other equipment and annual collection of grocery receipts to enable to the school to earn computers, books and other education materials.
Sharp Health School
Sharp Health School is located at 4300 13th Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20011. It is a public special education program that provides instructional and therapeutic services for students 3 through 21 with physical disabilities and/or multiple disabilities. The partnership between DOI and Sharp was formalized on
December 11, 1998. The school seeks similar aid provided to our long standing school partners.

DOI is among the agency members of Federal Resources for Educational Excellence (FREE), a federal interagency initiative formed to coordinate and make available educational resources at this rapidly growing web site.
