National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program
The EPA NPDES Permitting Program directly issues permits for Federal Facilities in Colorado, Indian Country permits, and provides permit oversight activities for the Region 8 states.
Coal Bed Methane (CBM) part of the NPDES program is fast becoming an important issue in western states. EPA Region 8 is working with the states to effectively deal with these sources.
EPA Region 8 funds NPDES related water quality projects (includes pretreatment and biosolids) through grants issued under the authority of the Clean Water Act. These grants are called 104(b)(3) grants and are available to state, tribal, and local governments, as well as non-profits and accredited schools. For more information: Take me to the Grants Page |
The Industrial Pretreatment Program ensures that discharges to the sanitary sewer system from industrial and commercial dischargers do not cause Pass Though of toxic pollutants or Interference with sewer system or treatment works and improve the opportunity for the benefical reuse of biosolids.
|
The Biosolids Program ensures that sewage sludge is of suffucient quality to protect public health and the environment. The program also promotes the beneficial reuse of biosolids.
|
Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) have become a significant environmental concern. EPA is focusing resources on these operations.
