Zinke in Utah for big game conservation

On February 9, 2018, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke was in Salt Lake City, Utah, to attend the Western Conservation and Hunting Expo and to make a major conservation announcement. Before the event, Secretary Zinke went to a Mule Deer “tagging” and medical exam, which involved capturing the Mule Deer in a residential neighborhood. After the tagging, Secretary Zinke was off to the Western Conservation and Hunting Expo. Secretary Zinke practiced his archery skills with a young woman named Gracie, who was quite the shot!

While at the event, Secretary Zinke signed Secretarial Order 3362, which will improve the habitat quality and western big game winter range and migration corridors for antelope, elk, and mule deer. Secretary Zinke established that States are prioritizing migration initiatives to better understand the habits of animals like mule deer, elk, and antelope, but there is much work the federal government can do to better understand the animals and improve habitat.
