My office has received numerous calls by those concerned about family and friends in Afghanistan. We are working intensively with U.S. interagency and non-governmental partners regarding U.S. refugee admission programs for at-risk Afghan citizens and working to help people who have been airlifted.

As the evacuation of Afghanistan has concluded, please utilize the following State Department websites for more information. Inquiries can be sent directly to the State Department, our office will do whatever possible to follow up on any specific inquiry.

The United States is also taking every available measure to assist Afghans who are at risk, particularly those who worked for or with the United States or have supported international efforts, and has established mechanisms to help Afghans at risk receive protection from potential retaliation or harm. The two key mechanisms to support Afghans who are at risk because of their affiliation with the United States are the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program and priority referrals to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP).

Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders or applicants: Please refer to this website (https://travel.state.gov/.../special-immg-visa-afghans...) regarding the SIV program, including FAQs for particular situations.

U.S. Refugee Admission Program for Afghan citizens: Please refer to this website (https://www.wrapsnet.org/siv-iraqi-syrian-afghan-p2/) regarding potential eligibility for the U.S. refugee admissions program for certain categories of at-risk Afghan citizens. Individuals may be eligible for a P-2 referral to the U.S. Refugee Assistance Program if they were employed by a U.S.-based non-governmental organization in Afghanistan.

P-2 referrals are intended for certain Afghans who are affiliated with the United States through employment, but who do not qualify for a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV). As it is not possible for individuals to self-refer to the program; the senior-most U.S. citizen employee of the non-governmental organization for which an Afghan individual worked must submit the referral.
