NUTRITION STUDIES
 

The Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center has two kinds of human studies; open community studies & open metabolic studies. In community studies, volunteers live at home but take their meals or supplements at the Center. In metabolic studies, volunteers live at the Center for the duration of the study.

OPEN COMMUNITY STUDIES: (Live at Home - Greater Grand Forks, ND area)
 
 

Healthy Women, Ages 21 to 51, Needed for Zinc Study

A 16-week study that will determine the amount of zinc our bodies absorb and require from food. For 8 weeks and 6 days, participants will eat meals and drink beverages provided by the Center. They can earn up to $1,344.

Healthy Men & Women, Ages 18 to 45, Needed for Beef Selenium Study

A 15-week study that will determine how well we absorb and utilize the selenium in the beef we consume. Participants will eat food provided by the Center during the 15-week study and they can earn up to $2240.

Healthy Women, Ages 21 to 51, Needed for Iron Fortification Study

A 16-week study that will determine how well we absorb the different kinds of iron added to fortify the foods we eat. Participants will take iron capsules 8 times during the study and they can earn up to $750.

Healthy Postmenopausal Females, Ages 51 to 80, Needed for Calcium Supplementation Study

A 2-year study that will determine if taking minerals, such as copper and zinc, with calcium supplements are more effective in protecting bones compared to calcium alone in postmenopausal women. Participants will receive calcium and multivitamin supplements free for two years and they can earn up to $750.

Healthy Postmenopausal Females Needed for Copper/Zinc Study

A 24-week study that will determine to what degree zinc supplements might affect other elements, especially copper. Participants can earn up to $5,880.
