Mission
The Operations Department directs and coordinates actions
necessary to execute responsibilities in the areas of plans,
physical security, fire prevention and protection, port
facilities and services, weapons, honors and ceremonies, and
the Display
Ship BARRY (DD-933).
We prepare and
maintain Headquarters Naval District Washington operations
and contingency plans pertaining to civil defense, civil
disturbances, domestic emergencies, and disaster
preparedness. We Review plans of other activities in
Naval District Washington to ensure interpretability with
Headquarters Naval District Washington plans.
The Operations Department coordinates with other military
services and federal, state and local governments regarding
matters of mutual concurrence, including military support of
civil authorities during emergencies and joint participation
in ceremonial functions.
We plan and direct Navy participation in official ceremonies
and special events in the Washington area, including:

hosted by the CNO

State,
official, and special military funerals

Presidential

We plan and
oversee the training, equipping, and scheduling of the Navy
Ceremonial Guard.
We operate and maintain the Display
Ship BARRY (DD-933) as a public display ship at
the Naval Station Washington. In addition, we support
ceremonies and special events conducted onboard the ship.
We provide waterfront facilities and services at the Naval
District Washington Anacostia Annex. We oversee
operation and maintenance of Naval District Washington
service craft and small boats, including the Commandant's
Barge.
We provide and assign berthing facilities and coordinate
logistics support for ships visiting Washington, DC and the
City of Alexandria. We support ship visits to other
ports in the Naval District Washington, including Baltimore
and Annapolis, as required.
We provide or coordinate utility craft use with civilian and
military authorities in emergencies throughout Naval
District Washington.
We provides oil spill and hazardous material containment and
cleanup in waterways in Naval District Washington.
We provides fire prevention and protection and oil or
hazardous material response for the Naval District
Washington Anacostia Annex, Bellevue Housing, Bolling Air
Force Base, and the Naval Research Laboratory. We
provide fire prevention (inspection) service to other
federal activities or buildings in the Naval District
Washington, as agreed.
We provide crash and rescue forces and equipment for
helicopter operations at Naval District Washington Anacostia
Annex, Bolling Air Force Base, and the Naval Research
Laboratory. We provide support and equipment for
Presidential helicopter operations.
We provide for physical security and traffic control at the
Naval District Washington Anacostia Annex and Bellevue
Housing.
We administer the Naval District Washington Casualty
Assistance Calls Program as directed by the Bureau of Naval
Personnel.
