About ISIN

Identify Invasives

The Invasive Species Information Node (ISIN) creates a central repository for the documentation, management, control, and prediction of invasive species. The node compiles species-specific information on many of our worst invasive species.

Innovative on-line identification guides under development offer tools to focus on a list of major invasive species (see Excel spreadsheet) developed by NBII. Once identified, the names link back to the Global Invasive Species Database, the Integrated Taxonomic Information System, and other authorities with valuable information such as the Non-Indigenous Aquatic Species Database and the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Web-enabled identification keys for major invasives

DiscoverLife.org has developed tools to identify, map, and report species occurrences, including invasives. Broader identification tools are already available for bumblebees of North America, and birds and others are under development.

Currently under development is a reporting system for users to map and submit via the Web, data about species they have seen and identified.
