Navy Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental Training Center Command Philosophy

The mission of Naval Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental Training Center (NAVOSHENVTRACEN) is to provide the highest quality training to civilian and military members of the Navy and Marine Corps. Accomplishment of this mission requires commitment to those that define and resource our mission, the commands that fill quotas, and the students receiving instruction. Most importantly, the staff of NAVOSHENVTRACEN must conduct day to day business as a close knit team with a commitment to fully support each other. Our command philosophy is structured around four simple words. By applying the principles of Effectiveness, Efficiency, Energy and Ethics we can accomplish any mission in the best manner possible.

Effectiveness means getting the job done right. Effectiveness requires satisfaction of all aspects of an assigned mission. Mediocrity is not the accepted norm. Effectiveness requires strategic planning, understanding of customer expectations, concrete goals, accurate metrics, and continuous process improvement.

Efficiency means getting the job done with the least amount of human effort and at an affordable cost. Not necessarily the lowest cost - but an affordable cost.

Energy means maintaining an organizational environment that captures the creativity, imagination, and technical knowledge of each and every individual and channeling these attributes to planning and execution. The energy of the team, not individual personalities, create processes that drive successful organizations.

Ethics will provide the cornerstones for both leadership and decision making. We will all hold true to the Navy core values of honor, courage, and commitment. Personal and business decisions made by command personnel will strive to prevent occupational disease and injury; preserve the environment; require honesty, fairness, proper management, and a commitment to equality.
