Careers at Argonne Argonne National Laboratory

Frequently Asked Questions

When are new jobs advertised on the Argonne web site?

New positions are posted on Friday.

How do I apply for a job at Argonne?

Using Argonne's online Resume Builder tool, complete a profile and submit a plain text (.txt) file resume as opposed to Word or Word Perfect format. This ensures that all recruiters and hiring managers can view your resume regardless of the word processor or operating system used. Once you create a profile, you can apply to any job openings that match your skills and qualifications by filling in your e-mail address and self-issued password.

Where do I find your online Resume Builder tool?

Resume Builder allows candidates to submit their resumes electronically for specific posted positions.  You can access Resume Builder through Job Search by clicking on a specific position and following the directions under "To Apply – Non-ANL Employee."

What happens to my resume after I complete the profile and submit the resume form?

When you apply for a job, you will receive an immediate screen acknowledgement that your submission was successful. Your resume will be reviewed, and if there is further interest in your credentials, you will be contacted. Your resume remains active for six months in our data base for recruiters to access.

May I apply to more than one job at the same time?

Yes. After you log in, just click on the requisition number for which you wish to be considered.

Should I send a paper copy of my resume if I sent an electronic or faxed copy?

No. We use an electronic tracking system to store resumes.

How can I check on the status of my resume?

Due to the volume of resumes received, we cannot respond to individual requests for eligibility status. If the hiring division wishes to interview you, Human Resources will contact you to coordinate a site visit. There is no “average” amount of time between submission and initial contact.

Is there a deadline for submitting a resume for an advertised job?

Non-Argonne employees may apply at any time for jobs that are on the “Job Search” list.

Current Argonne employees (regular and temporary) must submit a Transfer Application (Form HR-6) within the posting period.

Argonne frequently re-posts job openings to solicit additional candidates. If you have already submitted a resume (or transfer application) for a job that was re-posted or is still listed on the Argonne web page, it is not necessary for you to re-apply.

If I previously submitted my resume, how do I re-apply?

Log in to the Resume Builder page using your registered e-mail address and self-issued password. (Do not duplicate e-mail addresses. If you forget your password, click on “Forgot Password.”) To apply for a job, click on the requisition number. You do not need to send another resume.

How do I update or edit my resume?

Our computer security requirements do not allow you to edit the resume you submitted. Paste in a new resume (using plain text) in the resume box. This will replace the previous resume submitted.

On the posting document, what does “May Compete with Internal Candidate” mean?

It means that a current employee is working in the job and candidates will be in direct competition with that employee.

What if a job is no longer on the “Job Search” list?

It means that we are no longer accepting resumes for that job opening.
