Transition Points
"When I was in my 20s, 60-hour workweeks were my norm. I lived in San Francisco and worked as a fashion merchandiser for 10 years. During this time, I also took sign language classes and volunteered with the hearing-impaired program at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Deciding to do something more people-oriented at 29, I applied to and was accepted by the Peace Corps. My mother didn't quite understand why I would quit a great job and sell my furniture, but she ended up being one of my biggest supporters." -Tina Singleton (Central African Republic and Benin, 1992-1996)

Sometimes, you reach a point in your career where you wonder what would have happened if you had taken a different path. Maybe you enjoy the life you have, but wish you'd had the chance to do something different, something adventuresome, something that matters.

It's not too late.

For many people in mid-career, the Peace Corps is the perfect transition point. Why not get out of the daily grind and do something meaningful? You'll learn a lot about the world and about yourself. You may decide to take a completely different direction with your life when you get back. Or you may return to the same career, but with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity.

It may sound like a lot of hassle-putting your furniture in storage, holding a yard sale, getting rid of your car, wrapping up loose ends to leave your life behind for two years. But trust us, it can be done. And it will be worth it.
