EMP - Emergency Management and Preparedness logo

During emergency situations, the FHWA strives to support the needs of the traveling public, State/local agencies, and other Federal agencies through its emergency management and preparedness program.  In order to accomplish this goal, the FHWA must always maintain a state of readiness that would allow its staff to be prepared for and capable of responding to the effects of emergencies and natural disasters.  The FHWA Emergency Management and Preparedness Program addresses four major program areas:

  1. Communications
  2. Continuity of Government Operations
  3. Natural Disaster Planning and Response
  4. National Security Coordination.
