Spending your summer at NSA can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your college career. Students participating in our summer programs have the opportunity to learn and develop their skills while contributing to the security of our Nation. INSTALLATION & LOGISTICS INTERN PROGRAMS
The Installation & Logistics (I&L;) Intern Programs are the National Security Agency's newest programs for careers in the Installation and Logistics fields. These programs provide an opportunity for individuals pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Supply Chain Management to gain valuable work-related experience in a government setting.

About the Programs
As an I&L; Intern, you will be hired on a Temporary Appointment with a "Not to Exceed" date that ends no more than 12 weeks following the beginning of the internship.
Construction Management Intern Program
As a Construction Management intern, you will work directly under the guidance of senior NSA managers and assist/manage small to medium-sized construction projects (depending upon your skills and experience). You may also assist senior construction managers in the management of large construction projects. Other responsibilities include daily tours of the job site, interaction with the customer and construction contractor, preparation of necessary documentation, attending meetings, setting schedules, and reviewing proposals and other contract documents.
Supply Chain Management Intern Program
As a Supply Chain Management intern, you will work directly under the guidance of senior NSA Logistics Officers assessing future SCM Information Technology requirements and evaluating programmed initiatives and scheduled completion timelines. Other responsibilities include development of business cases, trend analyses, measurement reporting and interpretations, and developing/maintaining a Balanced Scorecard.
Salary
Students are paid a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Salaries for Associate degree students start at the GS-05 level. Salaries for Bachelor degree students start at the GS-07 level.

INTELLIGENCE ANALYSIS SUMMER PROGRAM
NSA's Intelligence Analysis Summer Program offers college upperclassmen and graduate students the opportunity to receive training in a multi-faceted cryptologic discipline that involves research, analysis, and the presentation of findings that enable us to provide the fullest possible Signals Intelligence picture to U.S. policymakers, military commanders, and other Intelligence Community members.

About the Program
The Intelligence Analysis Summer Program is an intensive 12-week program intended for high-potential college upperclassman and graduate students who are entering their final year of study. The program consists of formal classroom instruction, workshops, and on- and off- site facilities tours, which are designed to build knowledge and skills about NSA, the Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) process, and the U.S. Intelligence Community. This training is combined with an apprenticeship with senior NSA analysts for intensive, in-depth development work on exploiting communications for vital strategic intelligence targets and preparing intelligence reports.
Training is received in using the latest analytic techniques and methodologies, conducting extensive independent research through numerous databases, organizing results into reports and spreadsheets, and preparing and delivering a final project report to the relevant SIGINT organization.
Specific skills gained include:
- Understanding modern digital communications
- Administering and analyzing networks
- Developing background on targets
- Operating both Windows NT and SUN Solaris (UNIX) computer systems
- Extensive query language experience (e.g. Boolean logic) with various classified and unclassified databases
- Understanding the structure and processes of NSA and the U.S. Intelligence Community
- Conducting independent research and coordinating results with numerous Intelligence Analysts and Linguists across NSA's product line organizations
- Preparing intelligence reports responding to national level customer requirements

SEASONAL INTERN PROGRAM FOR INFORMATION ASSURANCE (SIP/IA)
(Formerly the College Summer Employment Program)
Working at NSA for a semester provides an opportunity for you to earn while you learn the field of Information Assurance (IA). You will be involved in information operations that protect and defend the Nation's top-secret information and information systems, as well as providing for restoration of information systems by incorporating protection, detection, and reaction capabilities.

About the Program
The Seasonal Intern Program for Information Assurance (SIP/IA) is a 12-week program open to select college upperclassman and graduate students who are concentrating their studies in the disciplines of Information Assurance. To participate in this program, the student must return to school for at least one semester following the internship.
For purposes of this program, IA encompasses the scientific, technical, and management disciplines required to ensure computer and network security, such as:
- System/network administration and operations
- Systems security engineering
- Information assurance systems and product acquisition
- Cryptography
- Threat and vulnerability assessment, including risk management
- Web security
- The operations of computer emergency response teams
- Information assurance training, education, and management
- Computer forensics
- Defensive information operations
Relevant academic disciplines, with concentration in IA, include, but are not limited to: Mathematics, Biometrics, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Programming, Computer Support, Database Administration, Computer Systems Analysis, Operations Research, Information Security (Assurance), and Business Management or Administration.

- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must be a college junior
- Must be eligible to be granted a security clearance

SUMMER LANGUAGE PROGRAM
NSA offers foreign language students the opportunity to sharpen their language skills in reading and listening to a professional level. As an apprentice to senior NSA language analysts you'll gain intensive experience exploiting communications for vital intelligence missions. You'll also have the unique opportunity for multi-dimensional and cross-disciplinary growth in analytical skills.
The Summer Language Program is currently hiring students studying Arabic, Chinese, Persian Farsi, and Korean.

About the Program
The summer language program is a flexible two-year summer language program that lasts 12 weeks each summer. It is intended for language students who have taken at least one language course per semester.The program begins the summer after your sophomore year and, if mutually agreeable, continues during the following summer after your junior year. At the end of your second summer, a conditional job offer may be given for you to join NSA after graduation.
The first summer for each student includes:
- A language proficiency level assessment
- A language mentor assigned from NSA's Language Analysis team
- Up to six weeks of tailored language training
- Relevant job-specific briefings
- Up to six weeks of job-specific and language-related training
The second summer focuses more on the actual work and includes:
- A language proficiency level reassessment
- The same language mentor, if possible, or another as appropriate
- Up to four weeks of tailored language training
- Up to eight weeks of hands-on operational experience

SUMMER MATH PROGRAMS
In our summer math programs you'll collaborate with top mathematicians in the country, solving problems critical to the success of our missions. You'll have the opportunity to learn and develop cryptomathematical theory and to apply the theory to operational problems.

About the Programs
The Math Summer Programs run from the end of May through the middle of August and are open to students majoring in Mathematics. Computer Science majors with either a minor in math or a strong math curriculum may also apply. These programs afford the opportunity to "earn; while you learn" by providing hands-on experience during a 12-week paid work assignment. Assignments are based on the student's experience and academic status. These intense 12-week programs give the brightest math students in America's colleges and universities the chance to put their problem-solving skills to the test and receive valuable work experience at the same time. Students participating in the programs have the opportunity to learn and develop cryptomathematical theory and to apply the theory to operational problems.
Programs Available
Director's Summer Program (DSP)
The Director's Summer Program (DSP) is a highly competitive program that seeks to reach the Nation's most outstanding undergraduate mathematics majors. Each summer we invite 24 exceptional students to put their problem-solving skills to the test in mathematics, cryptology, and communications technology. These problems often involve applications of abstract algebra, geometry, number theory, probability, statistics, combinatorics, graph theory, algorithms, computer science, and analysis.
Introductory lectures on modern cryptologic mathematics are given at the beginning of the summer as well as a presentation of the current operational problems at NSA. Each student chooses one or two problems as the focus of his or her research. Throughout the summer, students are expected to document their work in technical papers, which are internally published at NSA.
Mathematics Summer Employment Program (MSEP)
The Mathematics Summer Employment Program (MSEP) is open to undergraduate students majoring in mathematics. As an MSEP participant you will develop a deep understanding of the vital role that mathematics plays in assisting NSA tackle a diverse set of technical challenges. You'll also experience first-hand the excitement of working on mathematics problems of national importance. If you possess imagination, initiative, and intellectual curiosity, apply for the MSEP.
Graduate Mathematics Program (GMP)
The Graduate Mathematics Program (GMP) is a highly competitive program for exceptional graduate mathematics students. This program provides students with the opportunity to work directly with NSA mathematicians on missions-critical problems and experience the excitement of the NSA mathematics community first hand.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a mathematical graduate program where he or she has demonstrated superior mathematical aptitude and problem solving skills. Evidence of successful work on an independent project in pure or applied mathematics or computer science is desirable. Applicants may be at any stage in their graduate careers and working, or intending to work, in any area of mathematics. Computer programming experience, especially C or C++, is desirable. State-of-the-art computing resources are available to GMP participants, as well as computational software packages such as MATHEMATICA, MATHLAB, MAGMA, MAPLE, and SPLUS.

SUMMER NETWORK EVALUATION INTERN PROGRAM (SNEIP)
As a participant in the Summer Network Evaluation Intern Program (SNEIP) you will acquire an appreciation of the challenges our Nation faces in network security as it relates to real-world work experiences. You will experience first-hand some of the critical work done at NSA as well as have the opportunity to apply your skills on hardware and software systems to enhance network security and contribute to the security of U.S. information systems.

About the Program
The Summer Network Evaluation Intern Program (SNEIP) is an intense, exciting, and fun 12-week summer position intended for college juniors majoring in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical Engineering. Graduating seniors and graduate students will also be considered, if enrolled in a graduate program for the fall.
Participants will receive full-time work assignments starting in late May or early June. Students will tour unique and interesting organizations within NSA with the possibility of external tours of other Department of Defense agencies or other government affiliations.
Salary
Undergraduate students and graduate students are paid a competitive salary commensurate with their education and experience.

SUMMER PROGRAM FOR OPERATIONS RESEARCH TECHNOLOGY (SPORT)
Spend your summer at NSA further developing your technical skills. As an apprentice to OR and Modeling and Simulation Analysts at NSA you'll learn how to apply scientific and quantitative methods to develop innovative solutions to unconventional problems using state-of-the-art computer facilities.

About the Program
The Summer Program for Operations Research Technology is a 12-week internship for graduate students enrolled in an M.S. or Ph.D. program who have experience with computer programming languages. The goal of this program is to offer top graduate students, who have highly developed operations research skills, an opportunity to apply their knowledge in the professional atmosphere of one of the most advanced intelligence settings in the world.
Particular areas of technical interest include: modeling, simulation, optimization, mathematical programming, probability, and statistics.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be enrolled in an M.S. or Ph.D. program and have the skills to do OR Modeling
- Familiarity or expertise with a computer programming language is desirable
