After running a query, IDEA displays the results of your query in the form of a Standard Report or a User Specified Report (USR). Standard reports are pre-formatted and display a pre-determined set of data fields. Standard reports include:

Brief Facility Report (1A)    back to top

The Brief Facility Report (1A) provides a brief description of the facilities selected by your query. The organization of the information in this report differs for linked, nonlinked, and linked nonlinked queries. In short, linked queries return information organized by facility whereas nonlinked queries return information organized by the databases from which the information was retrieved. Linked nonlinked searches return reports including combinations of both. Within the report, the linked facilities are presented first, followed by nonlinked facilities.

Historic Facility Report (1B)   back to top

The Historic Facility Report (1B) provides a detailed description of the facilities selected by your query. This is the most commonly used report, however, if your list of facilities is long, this report might be too cumbersome. The organization of the linked, nonlinked, and linked nonlinked information is the same as in the Brief Facility Report (1A).

Detailed Facility Report (1C)   back to top

The Detailed Facility Report (1C) is a two-year multimedia compliance report that provides a concise compliance history for the facilities selected in your query. Each facility is tracked for compliance under three statutes: the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Report 1C makes use of data from three primary data systems: AIRS Facility Subsystem (AFS), Permit Compliance System (PCS), and RCRA Information System (RCRIS).

The report consists of six sections or categories of information for each facility that matches your query:

  • Linked Permits and Identifiers,
  • Enforcement Actions,
  • Current Significant Noncompliance Status,
  • Noncompliance Status by Quarters,
  • Inspection History, and
  • Demographic Profile of Surrounding Area.
For more information about the Detailed Facility report, read the Detailed Facility Report Description (PDF, 84 KB). This document describes the sections, fields, and data elements that populate the Detailed Facility report.

Two-Year Multimedia Enforcement Report   back to top

The Two-Year Multimedia Enforcement Report provides a listing of the federal and state formal enforcement actions that have been entered into EPA data systems within the last two years. Informal enforcement actions, such as notices of violations (NOVs), are not included. The report includes only enforcement actions under CAA, CWA, and RCRA. Federal and state enforcement action data derives from each of the program office databases (AFS, PCS, and RCRIS) via IDEA, and not from EPA's Enforcement Docket System.

Two-Year Multimedia Inspection Report   back to top

The Two-Year Multimedia Inspection Report lists the CAA, CWA, and RCRA inspections that have occurred over the past two years. Inspections include all federal and state inspections that have been entered into EPA's national data system.

Noncompliance Report (2)   back to top

The Noncompliance Report (2) is a multimedia table that contains the following information on selected facilities: EPA facility identification number, name, state, and violation status. This report indicates if a facility is a significant noncomplier (SNC) in the CWA, FIFRA, EPCRA 313, and TSCA programs; a high priority violator (HPV) according to the RCRA program; or a significant violator (SV) according to the CAA program. It also contains the following civil docket information: case number, case name, and overall status. The total number of facilities and violators for each database is listed at the bottom of the report. In the case of a linked nonlinked query, the report first presents the facilities with valid FII identification numbers that match all of the selection criteria. Then it presents the facilities without valid FII identification numbers that match any of the selection criteria.

Address Report   back to top

The Address Report lists all of the address information associated with the selected facility. If the facility is linked in FII, the Address Report displays the FII Facility ID (FACUIN) and a line of voted address information, followed by the address information from each of the databases linked to the facility.

Summary Report   back to top

The Summary Report has five distinct sections:

  • Section one is a chart showing the number of facility counts by program and by EPA region,
  • Section two lists the number of selected facilities that are in compliance and not in compliance by program,
  • Section three displays the total number of enforcement actions taken on selected facilities by program,
  • Section four shows facility counts by region and by Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code, and
  • Section five totals toxic substance release information for the selected facilities by pollutant and by year.

Action Report  back to top

The Action Report is a derivative of the Two-Year Multimedia Report (Report 1C) which was developed in conjunction with the Sector Facility Index (SFI) project. Both reports contain integrated information organized by category of data, e.g., inspections and enforcement actions. The Action report provides facility level data on inspections, enforcement, compliance, and TRI releases.

The Action report also allows the user to specify which sections to include in the report. The report sections are numbered 1 through 6 and are organized as follows:

  1. Facility Data
  2. Linked Permits and Identifiers
  3. Profile
  4. Inspection History (Last 2 years)
  5. Enforcement Actions (Last 2 years)
  6. TRI Release Summary
For more information about the Action report, read the Action Report Description (PDF, 73 KB). This document describes the sections, fields, and data elements that populate the Action report.

User Specified Report (USR)   back to top

A USR is a customized report designed by the user. Users can specify the data fields, titles, alignment, and headings of their reports. USRs allow users to design output that details only the information they want to see.
