  • The Corporation for National and Community Service will award approximately $600,000 in grant funds to help commemorate the 2005 Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday with volunteer service projects.
  • Youth Service America and State Farm have announced the State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grant competition.
  • The White House's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives will hold its next regional conference in Miami, Florida on October 19.
  • More than 3 million Americans across the country will participate in Make A Difference Day on October 23.

  • President Announces Mentoring Grants for Children of Prisoners
  • More than 160 AmeriCorps members are directly assisting in the recovery effort to Hurricane Charley through FEMA and other national emergency management organizations, with additional AmeriCorps, VISTA, and RSVP members assisting in a variety of local response efforts through the American Red Cross and other organizations
  • One Day's Pay is bringing together nonprofit service organizations, private businesses, and groups representing the families of victims of September 11 to help mobilize Americans to serve others
  • National Neighborhood Day is a non-profit initiative that helps to strengthen our country's communities by promoting neighborhood gatherings and volunteer service projects across the country each year on the second Sunday in September

  • The Corporation for National and Community Service made two funding announcements during May - Challenge Grants and Presidential Freedom Scholarships
  • USA Freedom Corps launched A Call to Summer Service, a website initiative designed to encourage more Americans to spend a part of their summer in volunteer service

  • President Bush Thanks Volunteers Across the Country During National Volunteer Week and Encourages All Americans to Serve
  • Earth Day (April 22) fell during National Volunteer Week this year, and President Bush used the opportunity to promote environmental preservation and service activities
  • During her remarks at the Congressional Club First Lady's Luncheon, Mrs. Bush encouraged Americans to support the families of our troops serving overseas through On the Homefront, a joint initiative of the USA Freedom Corps and the Department of Defense
  • In celebration of National Volunteer Week, more than 100 volunteers from the White House, AmeriCorps, KaBOOM!, The Home Depot, and the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation joined members of the Anacostia community in Washington D.C. to build a playground for the Children of Mine Center

  • On November 12, Peace Corps Director Gaddi H. Vasquez signed an historic agreement with Mexico that will lead to Peace Corps volunteers serving in Mexico for the first time in 2004
