Cancer Information Resources

Cancer Clinical Trials, clinicaltrials.gov, provides patients, family members, and members of the public current information about clinical research studies.

CancerNet™, http://cancer.gov/cancerinformation, provides links to cancer information including portions of the PDQ database, information about ongoing clinical trials, NCI fact sheets, publications, CancerNet™ News and CANCERLIT® abstracts and citations.

CANCERLIT®, http://cancer.gov/cancerinfo/literature/, contains over 1,200,000 citations on all aspects of cancer covering books, government reports, presentations, theses, and scientific journals, usually with abstracts.

Cancer Information Service (CIS), 1-800-4-CANCER (1-800-422-6237), http://cis.nci.nih.gov/ a national information and education network, is a free service of the National Cancer Institute.  CIS is your source for the latest, most accurate cancer information for patients, their families, the general public, and health professionals. CIS responds to calls in English and Spanish.

Healthfinder, www.healthfinder.gov, provides information on selected online publications, clearinghouses, databases, websites, support, and self-help groups, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

MEDLINEplus, www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/, information pages are designed to direct you to resources containing information that will help you research your health questions.

National Network of Libraries of Medicine, 1-800-338-7657, directs health professionals, educators, and the general public to health care information resources.

NIH Cancer Trials, www.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials/, is the National Cancer Institute's Resource for Cancer Clinical Trials Information.

PDQ®, www.cancer.gov/cancerinfo/pdq/cancerdatabase/, NCI's Comprehensive Cancer Database, contains peer-reviewed summaries on treatment, screening, prevention, and supportive care; a registry of approximately 1,500 open and 9,500 closed clinical trials from around the world, and directories of physicians, genetic counselors, and organizations that provide cancer care, including FDA-approved mammography screening facilities.

National Women's Health Information Center, www.4women.gov, focal point for women's health issues.

Cancer Prevention and Control, CDC, www.cdc.gov/cancer/, focuses its cancer prevention and control resources in five priority areas: The National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, The National Program of Cancer Registries, Skin Cancer Primary Prevention and Education Initiatives, the Prostate Cancer Control Initiative, and the Colorectal Cancer Control Initiative.
