Veteran's Day
On November 11, 2004, we honor
our Veterans who have served our country and protected our
freedom. As a Member of Congress, I have the extreme privilege to
meet and talk to our Veterans and hear their stories. I find
myself humbled by their service, their patriotism and their
dedication to their communities. I encourage everyone not only to
pause and honor all Veterans, but also to thank them for their
service.
I also encourage people to
support our veterans and our troops on Veterans Day and throughout
the holiday season. The following websites are great resources to
find an organization to help those men and women who have
sacrificed for our freedom.
For our Veterans:

For our Troops:

call the Defense Logistics Agency at
(703) 767-5264.

For more information about
Veterans Day, including the President’s message, visit the
Department of Veterans Affairs here:

Finally, the Library of
Congress, in conjunction with National Geographic, manages a
program called the Veterans History Project, which is collecting
stories, photographs, and other memorabilia from veterans. I
encourage you to visit them at
www.loc.gov/vets, and help in any way you can.
Marine Corps 229th
Birthday
On November 10, 2004, the U.S.
Marine Corps celebrates their 229th Birthday. This
year, the Marine Corps birthday is special for me because I have
had the pleasure of hosting a Marine Legislative Fellow for the
past year in my Washington, DC office. Major D. Bowen Richwine
Jr. has spent the last year in my office learning the legislative
process and teaching me and my staff about his work as a Marine
Officer. Every year, four Marine Fellows are chosen to work on
Capitol Hill for one year and this is the first time I have had
the pleasure to host a Fellow.
For more information about the
History and Ceremony of the Marine Corps Birthday, please visit
Marine Birthday.
Also, you can read the
Commandant’s Birthday Message.
