Metadata Funding History and Strategies for the NPS Intermountain Region |
- FY 2005 - $25,000 is set aside in the Special Emphasis Program Allocation System (SEPAS) to support metadata collection. Two parks will receive GIS Project Funds in direct support of metadata collection. They are: Western Archeologic and Conservation Center San Antonio Missions National Historic Park
- FY 2004 - $44,000 was set aside in the special Emphasis Program Allocation System (SEPAS) to support metadata collection
- Parks receiving funds include:
- Bandelier National Monument
- Glacier National Park
- Grand Teton National Park
- Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
- FY 2003 - $44,000 was set aside in the Special Emphasis Program Allocation System (SEPAS) to support metadata collection In general, these funds were re-directed to fund the Enterprise License Agreement. However, one park was able to complete their metadata project this year through an alternate fund source and one park received a FGDC Grant
- Parks receiving alternate funding:
- Bryce Canyon National Park
- Mesa Verde National Park
-
FY 2002 - Five parks will receive GIS Project funding in direct support of metadata collection ($~44K):
- Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains National Parks (partnership)
- Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site
- Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site
- Petrified Forest National Park
- Southern Arizona Office (8 park units in southern Arizona)
- FGDC 2001 Grants: We received a FGDC Grant for New Mexico Federal Lands Metadata Collections ($6K)
- FY 2000 - In fiscal year 2000, two parks - Yellowstone and Zion received direct funding in support of metadata collection of a portion of their GIS data layers. $15,000 was set aside in support of Metadata training, in particular the MetaMaker software. The dollars helped fund travel costs for GIS specialists in parks to attend training. Additionally our office competed for and received a Federal Geographic Data Committee grant for $30,000.Currently we have one employee working full-time on metadata collection and have another employee working part-time supporting Quality Control of metadata in development
- FGDC 2000 Grants: Our FGDC grant proposal, the Southwestern Colorado Metadata Initiative, has been partially funded and we have met with our partner agencies (BLM and USFS) to discuss implementation of new interagency metadata training and collection
- FY 1999 - $15,000 was set aside in support of Metadata training, in particular the MetaMaker software. The dollars helped fund travel costs for GIS specialists in parks to attend training. Staff in the Intermountain GIS Program Office documented legacy and more current data layers
- FY 1998 - In fiscal year 1998, one park - Rocky Mountain received direct funding in support of metadata collection for 100 GIS data layers. Metadata software(s) were evaluated. All GIS Program Office staff were trained in Metadata and the MetaMaker software
