Federal Aid"Wildlife Conservation in America literally depends on the millions of dollars hunters and anglers contribute each year through excise taxes and license fees. Wherever a State is conserving a wetland, restoring a river or lake, or building a barrier-free trail through the woods, you can just about be sure sportsmen and women have contributed money to the project."
The Federal Aid Division works with State fish and wildlife agencies in a mutually responsible, cooperative and creative grant partnership to protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and habitat resources for present and future public benefit. The Region's Federal Aid Office administers close to a $91 million user-pay/user-benefit in grants to the eight states in Region 3. The major grant programs, Sport Fish Restoration and Wildlife Restoration, are recognized nationwide for the positive impact they have had on the quality of habitat and species management and the efficiency of program administration. The States use the Federal Aid grants, which account for one-forth to one-third of their respective fish and wildlife management budgets, for work across the full spectrum of their management responsibilities. The Federal Aid Division also administers grants under the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act, the Anadromous Fish Conservation Act (currently inactive), the Partnership for Wildlife Program, Section 6 of the Endangered Species Act, and the Clean Vessel Act.
