Letters of Intent

It is recognized that a quick turnaround is necessary in some cases. Access to the AMS Resource may be obtained on the basis of a Letter of Intent under a limited set of conditions. Such conditions include, but are not limited to, testing the feasibility of a pilot experiment or novel ideas, which do not require a substantial number of AMS analyses.

Letters of intent should only be submitted after investigators have had initial contact with the Resource Director or Resource Administrator to discuss the research problem. Letters of Intent do not go through the full application review process and the Resource Director may give approval for the study following review by the Resource staff. In general, formal applications will take priority over Letters of Intent in the sample analysis scheduling process. Letters of Intent must briefly address (2 pages or less) the problem to be examined, the number of samples required and the time frame within which the test is desired, together with pages 1, 4, and 5 of the "Application for Access to the Resource" form. A signed copy and electronic copy of each Letter of intent accompanied by pages 1, 4, and 5 of the "Application for Access to the Resource" form should be submitted to the Resource Administrator, Karolyn Burkhart-Schultz, at the address listed under "Submission and Review of Applications".
